What flavors define your hometown? This could be a difficult question to answer for many people, but for native Coloradans the answer can be found in one place- The Taste of Colorado. Every year over Labor Day weekend hundreds of thousands of people convene in downtown Denver for one thing- food, food and more food (with some shopping on the side).
The Taste of Colorado has been held for 24 years now, and with the popularity of it, it will be around at least that much longer. By purchasing tickets at $5 for 8, you can buy any gastronomic treat you like. Entering the park is free though, so music and people watching are as cheap as they come.
Food vendors from the entire state stake a claim in Civic Center Park and wait for the hordes of hungry mobs to come. Everything from buffalo burgers to Pad Thai can be found here; and with Colorado growing exponentially every year, these truly are the tastes of the state.
Of course, once you have eaten your way around the park, you have to burn some calories. The best way to do this is to visit the hundreds of booths selling more Colorado goodies. Jewelry is the best deal; but you can also find doggie treats, home treats and even kiddie treats here.
Speaking of kids, there is a carnival situated inside the Taste as well. Nothing says the end of summer like holding cotton candy in one hand as you try to win a big red dog with the other hand!
If you want to relax as you munch on yummy BBQ ribs, there are three stages hosting different bands all day every day. But, you say, you came only for the food? Well you can relax as you see the free cooking demonstrations inside a breezy tent instead. This year the Food network star Cat Cora came by and showed off her talents to hundreds of fans.
To Coloradoans, the Taste signifies the end of summer and the beginning of autumn. What a neat thing to have a city close roads so the people can eat, shop and be happy.
